TotalEnergies has taken a strategic step to strengthen its presence in the UK electricity sector by acquiring a portfolio of solar and battery storage projects totaling 435 MW. The package, purchased from Low Carbon—a leading European renewable energy developer—includes eight solar power plants (350 MW) and two battery storage systems (85 MW), all located in southern England.

These projects are expected to become operational by 2028, with the capacity to generate over 350 GWh annually—enough to supply around 100,000 UK households with clean, low-carbon electricity.
Energy Transition with Scale and Speed
The move reinforces TotalEnergies’ positioning as a major player in Europe’s energy transition. More than just acquiring assets, the company is building a robust, integrated power generation portfolio in the UK, which already includes:
• 🌬️ 1.1 GW of gross offshore wind capacity• 🔄 1.3 GW of combined-cycle gas generation• ☀️ Over 600 MW of solar projects in development
With this new acquisition, the French group significantly expands its delivery capacity in the British market, aligning with its global strategy to reach 100 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030.
Storage: A New Pillar of the Power System
The 85 MW of battery storage included in the transaction highlights the growing importance of energy storage in stabilizing grids with high renewable penetration. Storage systems are crucial for ensuring security and reliability in energy systems increasingly reliant on intermittent sources like solar and wind.
According to TotalEnergies, the focus is on solutions that not only generate but also intelligently integrate renewable energy, supporting the structural transformation of the UK’s power matrix.
Partnership with Low Carbon: Excellence from the Source
The deal also strengthens the relationship between TotalEnergies and Low Carbon, known for developing renewable infrastructure with high standards of quality and sustainability. The collaboration underscores the critical role of developers in accelerating the energy transition—thanks to their project delivery speed and technical-environmental viability.
A Cleaner, Safer Europe
TotalEnergies’ progress in markets like the UK is part of a broader context: the pursuit of energy security, decarbonization, and independence from fossil fuels. With ongoing challenges such as the climate crisis and gas-related geopolitics, initiatives like this demonstrate that major global players are actively building more resilient and sustainable energy systems.
